Not really. It’s a line from a Tubes song….But I was really into Punk and the Gothic Punk scene of the early 80’s. Some of my favorites were Super Heroines, Christian Death, 45 Grave, there was a song by Church Police on an Alt. Tent. comp that is still one of my favs (The Oven Is My Friend). Back in the very early 80’s (I’m thinking 81 or 82) there was a gothic punk 12 single that I bought and I dont remember much about it other than I loved it. I would love to hear it again. HELP.Hears the clues I can provide. It cover is similar in content to the Sleep Chamber EP Some Godz Die Young. The band name, or perhaps the 12″ singles name is some play on the word Crucifx. The guitars sounded as if they were tuned low. Thats all I got. HELP!link

Every lightening strike during the night caused sparks to shoot from his electrical outlets.(I wonder if any of the appliances I had plugged in survived the power surges.) He heard tree tops snapping all night and then again this morning a fierce wind ripped through the area. Four or five trees were knocked down in Mark’s 100-yard long driveway, severing his power line. So many trees that when Mark and Harry (who lives relatively nearby) started to walk Harry’s driveway, they couldn’t see the camp until they were nearly on top of it.

California’s bloated school-to-prison pipeline efficiently channels poor and minority children into juvenile halls, then to the massive California Youth Authority, and then on to the state prison system as adults. But now, in yet another signal that the pendulum may be swinging away from punitive incarceration, the state legislature has hit the brakes.Under Senate Bill 81, all but the most violent delinquents will now stay in their home counties instead of going to the scandal-plagued California Youth Authority prisons.

In 2005, syndicated columnist Jim Davidson of Conway started the project, which builds oak bookcases, with an individualized nameplate, containing at least eight books to give to 3- to 5-year-old children of lower-income families. The Conway project recently reached a total of 150 bookcases given to city children for its third awards ceremony held in April. from those with the ability to use a table saw for constructing the bookcase, to those working at hope for tables of donated books to select age-appropriate material, to those who can take time to join the reading program.Norman’s credentials come partially from his six years of participation in weekly reading sessions in the existing Head Start program. “We’re going into read and read on a weekly basis.”Betty Lowe has had 30 years in Head Start programs and is the director of the Pine Early Head Start program at 1900 Pine St. in North Little Rock. has dropped to 21 percent from 81 percent in 1955.Davidson presented statistics showing that 20 percent of Arkansans cannot read at a fifth-grade level, and the U.S. now stands at 18th in ranking of the top 21 industrialized countries in reading, math and science skills.Davidson said the ability to read is the “essential building blocks”

He gives twelve examples of this, though he does not mention vowel quantity. Either the scribes were familiar with the vowel quantity of Semitic names (through knowing Hebrew/Aramaic or through hearing the names clearly enunciated in public Scripture reading) or the presence of ει comes from the authors themselves. Rambles: Let’s Check in a couple of weeks

Array-ne As I was reading Appleton’s letter (thanks for the heads up, Andrew) two things struck me: first that I would like to hear Carol Folt’s arguement, and second, that I’d like to talk to some students in the class. This review existed when they were picking classes, and if they fail to take enough interest in their curriculums to research what classes they’re taking, then they deserve to have to put up with bad or inconsistent professors.I think people are concerned with two issues here: that students are concerned solely with their GPA enough to lodge formal complaints against a professor because they received poor grades and whether they were actually justified in doing this, and that the Dean Folt acted out of her jurisdiction by changing a professor’s grades without adequately trying to understand his class or grading practices and whether or not she was justified in doing this.I have to admit, that after reading Folt’s letter and these reviews, I have a new opinion of the whole thing. What concerns me at this point is that 42 out of 76 students in a Dartmouth class are too stupid to realise that their grading scheme has changed and that by going to a couple of office hours they would be guaranteed an A in the class. Good Prof, fun classInteresting class, the final project is fun to do.i love technoTake this class, very little work, interesting material, fun final project.Cool BeansThis class was very interesting. Very good class and professor.interestingThis was an inspiring class, especially for a non-music major.nice oneInteresting class…great profcool profi liked appleton, class was cool too.The Course was great…But sometimes the professor was not, but overall, both were interesting and lively. I had fun working on it though and really enjoyed the class as a whole.Good TASThe class was interesting most days and it was a great way to get out of a TAS requirement!FunThis class does not require a great deal of classwork. I found his digressions and talks about life and death, what makes art, and what makes a good learning experience as interesting or even more interesting than the music theory.Great class but questionable quizzesThis class is a great class especially if you’re interested in music or composing with computers. As long as you pay attention during the lectures, the quizzes are pretty simple and in the end, as long as you put in visible effort (by meeting with him) and pace yourself over the term the composition isnt too bad.Chill ClassGood class overall.Fun classbut if you’re not creative, avoid it b/c grades are based on a final music composition made on a computer.great class!!!!take this as your TASJust Stay AwayIf appleton likes you, you get an A.If appleton has some weird conception of you in his head, you practically fail. Basically if you do a decent job on this, and get the prof to like you, you’ll get a good grade without doing as much work as most classes demand.bad class for tasthis class seems ok but it is actually pretty bad. it also made me appreciate the effort music composers put into making techno and house music…good classprofessor appleton is the bestCompositionA Good course that is more valuable for the opportunity to get input from Professor Appleton on your electronic music composition than the earlier lectures, that tend to focus on music history. They’re valuable and interesting, but there is a bit of a divide between the overview that is contained in the lectures and the final composition that makes up most of the grade.Take this course if you need a Mus distrib, or if you want to learn more about electronic music - techno buffs that haven’t composed before would probably find this class especially interesting.Overall, Professor Appleton is a good lecturer and a funny guy, and very approachable. He’s helpful as long as you show that you’re willing to put in the time.Interesting CourseCool, class, Easy TASlove the prof, class too bigthis prof is great, but the class was too big for the material covered– fun, easy, class as long as you go and talk to the prof a lot and make sure he knows who you are.

December 1st, 1955. That was the day that years later would become my birthday. But more important, that was the day that Rosa Parks grew sick and tired of being sick and tired. And the down-trodden everywhere thank her for it.On that day 50 years ago, Miss Rosa would not be moved, refused to give up her bus seat — in the back, in the infamous Colored Section — to a white man. She probably figured she was already sitting atop the motor. What did they want? Her outside hanging onto the bumper, knees scraping the rough Alabama roads for a ride?Miss Rosa said she wasn’t at all physically tired, she was fed up with accommodating racism. She was a Kanye West long before he was born, too. Hers was a magical moment of mass connectivity, much like West’s when he said on national television, George Bush doesnt like Black people.” Both did something akin to firing shots heard round the world. Except the slug fired by the immovable, then 42-year-old Rosa Parks actually led people to act. Her refusal to unseat sparked a year-long bus boycott that triggered a seismic change in the American experience for people of African descent. And really, for Africans in the Caribbean and across the Motherland, truth be told. But Rosa Parkss revolution would not be televised
link

Though the story is a relatively well known one for Americans, her very simple act of defiance in that December of 1955 that sparked a whole movement with MLK at its head, and in particular brought the bus company to its knees and made the supreme court declare the segregation laws unconstitutional, is relatively little known outside of the U.S. After all she just refused to stand from her seat in a bus because her feet hurt, right?. Rosa Parks was an active member of the underground pacifist movement that existed back then, she was more than aware of passive resistance.

OK, now that we have dispensed with the childish insults, let’s get down to business. In this extraordinary post, Neil Harding cannot understand why everyone with a brain is agin ID cards and yet, amazingly, he is not. This made me think of two scenarios, either I am totally deluded in supporting ID cards or there is something unrepresentative about bloggers (remember opinion polls find a majority of the population in favour of ID cards).I respectfully suggested that - because the research is not there to support his thesis - he is, indeed, completely deluded. It is clear that ID cards are being presented as a fait accompli, which rather negates the whole purpose of the survey: the public is not being presented with a choice. The kicker for me, though is the last question:Q11 The Government is thinking of making the public pay for their ID cards much as we already do for passports and driving licences. Let’s find out what YouGov actually says:Q: Are you in favour of, or opposed to, the introduction of a system of national identity cards in Britain?A: 45% in favour, 42% opposed, 13% don’t knowNo persiflage, no given that ID cards are going to be introduced, what do you think about…, just the straight unadulterated question. Do you believe that this amount of money should, or should not, be spent on introducing identity cards?A: 66% thinks this money should not be spent on ID cards Does this feel like 80% public support, Neil? And it gets worse:Q: Another estimate of the total cost of introducing a system of national identity cards is higher: between £10 billion and £19 billion. 89% think that adding an ID card either adds no value or actually subtracts value from a passport.Let’s recap:MORI: 80% support, given that three quarters of the sample know little about them and the sample has been told prior to the question that they are going to happen anyway, declining to 21% who are prepared to fork out the actual cash that Charlie wants to extract from you for the pleasure of allowing the state to declare that you exist.YouGov: 45% support on a properly constructed unbiased question, declining to 19% support for this use of the actual sum of money likely to be extracted from taxpayers. They are better informed (because they do things like finding the original research rather than relying on news reports) and are likely to have suffered a bit more education.Secondly, it is just possible - crazy idea here, but I shall float it anyway - that ID cards are a bit like the EU constitution: the more you know about it, the more you begin to see that you don’t like it…YouGov supports this:Do you support the introduction of ID cards?

According to John McLaughlin, the governor’s pollster, the governor is ahead on both 75 and 77, hitting the 50 percent mark on each. On 74, Todd Harris, the governor’s spokesman, said that they were in a pitched hand to hand, bayonet battle. Ok, we can pretend that clears that up. Also, the governor’s campaign has not yet spent a dime on TV specificially targetted at teacher tenure. The push of that campaign has been the governor’s education adviser Margaret Fortune talking to editorial boards.Even the eternally optimistic Schwarzenegger campaign sounded glum about Prop 76, the governor’s spending initiative that, at one point looked to be the linchpin of his reform package. No question we are the underdogs, said Harris.Schwarzenegger’s campaign also said that 80 percent of voters, according to their numbers, intended to vote for what props they thought were best–irregardless of their feelings for the governor. That would be good for the campaign, presumably, because the governor’s 33% approval rating is lower than everything he is pushing except Prop 76. But I have a feeling the governor’s campaign doesn’t believe that 80 percent number any more than I do. The election, after all, is the governor’s. And he is the face and the money behind 74-77. The proof may be in the pudding: Today the campaign goes on the air with a quasi-mea culpa ad, in which the governor directly addresses the viewers for 30 seconds, saying, Ive had a lot to learn, and sometimes I learned the hard way…But my heart is in this, and I want to do right by you.”The campaign would be unlikely to put the unpopular governor front and center–apologizing–if he was not a driver of voters. The best article on what polls mean and why they differ this election season is here. Also, Capitol Weekly broke down the wording of the governors poll versus the public polls.

The restaurant bar is not separated from the dining area in any way, so I took notice that this must be one of the Madison socialite hangouts due to the large number of older women and men in the bar and their familiarity with the bartender and waitstaff.I did not order an appetizer, but both Stephanie and Taylor were kind enough to let me sample theirs. Looking back on it - i’m convinced past diners named this dish because their mouth was stabbed with dozens of tiny needles!Having said this, I was very impressed with the overall feel of the restaurant. There are definitely items on the menu I would order, when I return to Town 220 Bistro - i’ll just stear clear of the Porcupine Shrimp.Virna Mendoza—————————————————————————————–Dish: Ceasar Salad and CalamariFood: B-Atmosphere: A-Service: CReview: Overall my dining experience tonight was average. I ordered the calamari and a ceasar salad as my entree, as I like to put the two items together to make a calamari salad. When I ordered I had requested that both items come out at the same time but unfortunately I was served my salad first. Calamari salad is one of my favorite combinations and have ordered this at many establishments.I did try a bite from Natalie’s and Stephanie’s plate and thought both dishes were excellent. The wine list was eclectic and offered a variety of choices both by the glass and the bottle. For the food, I chose a salad with my entree, a simple mix of field greens with a tangy basil vinaigrette dressing. It seemed as if the waiter intentionally tried to slow the meal by not taking our actual orders until every bit of the hors devours and then didn’t place our entrees until all of the salads and soups were finished. All in all, I thought it was a good experience and I will be back….if for nothing else than to re-experience the tuna!

Array Myron Brinig’s 1933 novel The Flutter of an Eyelid, on the other hand, paints an unreservedly acerbic picture of the evangelist in the form of Sister Angela Flower. The Flutter of an Eyelid is a thoroughly bizarre tale of an uptight New England writer named Caslon Roanoke who has come to California to “write a novel different from any he had written before, peopled by characters who were motes in the sun, driven this way and that by vagrant breezes from the Pacific, without the austerity and discipline that had marked his books up to this time” As Caslon composes his novel, he discovers that the characters he has met who people his narrative begin to be controlled by the words Caslon himself writes. The line between Caslon the observer and Caslon the author blurs to the point of indistinction.Caslon’s impression of southern California before he came was “as a huge, cement motion-picture factory surrounded by tabernacles given over to the practice of strange cults and womanish religions” Fellow partygoer Dwight Preston is shocked to discover Caslon has never heard of the Ten Million Dollar Heavenly Temple where Sister Angela preaches the Golden Rule Gospel. Sister Angela remarks that Jesus is present in sex and her Scotch before beginning a conversation with the tea merchant about how her savior would have been so much more at home among the Chinese because He is “too meek and mild for the Western races” Caslon is eventually freed from the lure of the West Coast, just in time to escape certain death as the entire state of California is torn asunder and, like Milton, sinks to the bottom of the sea. Sister Angela is last seen as she is swallowed by a whale that proceeds to spit her back out, as she dreams of the money that would fill the Temple once she told her congregants that she had seen Jonah.Urban Fervor: The Quacks & Charlatans SchoolUrban Fervor: The Hollywood NovelUrban Fervor: Ape &

Ninja Black – this is the classic ninja in black that is so deadly he could make a nuclear missle crap itself. Ninja White – dressed in all white, these ninjas blend into snow and ice. Halloween Ninjas – October 31 is the day when kids and adults dress in frightening forms like ghosts, zombies, and ninjas.

Despite all this, I had never watched The Office.I watched Extras and really enjoyed it, but I put off watching The Office. There are two moments that spring to mind that I had to pause so that I could properly laugh.1) Clip 1.2) Though YouTube is full of clips, I recommend watching the show from the beginning. I would not recommend the marathon kind of watching schedule that I did simply because when you have reached the end, you will feel dejected and heartbroken that now you have to wait for the television schedule for your next fix.

Particularly appropriate for Advent is a sermon series on the Apostle’s Creed, with its threefold structure mirroring the Three Persons in One God who is the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And so this evening we direct our meditation toward the first Article of the Creed wherein we confess God the Father. “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.” We confess a great deal in those twelve words… more than first meets the eye. We call Him Father, confessing His intimate relationship with us. We call God Father, not because He has created us along with all things, though it is certainly true that He is our Creator. We call God Father because He has made us His own children in Holy Baptism. We call God Father because He is Jesus’ Father, and we are members of Jesus’ Body. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. Neither tribulation nor any earthly need will be able to sever the relationship we have with God, our Heavenly Father, through Christ our Lord. He begins by emphasizing what God has given us in creation: “I believe that God has made me and all creatures; Luther moves from this emphasis on the blessings God bestows in creating us to the assurance that God sustains us and all creation. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life.” “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights,” writes St. James (James 1:17). Our Father also “defends (us) against all danger and guards and protects (us) from all evil.” This is a difficult thing to confess when a hail storm wipes out your crops or a tornado tears your house apart. The Son came to make us children of the Heavenly Father. Because Jesus has come to us and united us to Himself, God has declared that He is our Father.

Damn it. Much in the same fashion as Joey, I had myself an encomium planned for the UVA win over FSU. It’s Wednesday. By the time I spruce it up with enough jokes to make it something other than a repeat of the obvious, it’ll be 2015, and I’ll have to write another one. Here’s a couple points that need to be made, though:1. I can’t really compare this game to any other I’ve experienced in the Groh Era. There were incredibly fun wins, such as what happened in 2002 against Maryland and West Virginia. 2003 saw some important staying power wins against Pitt and VT. But this was just monumental. The only thing I can liken it to in my time at UVA was beating Duke on Valentine’s Day 2001, 91-89. The crowd created an atmosphere that made you think anything was possible, and UVA played the kind of game they always seem to need against a superpower: get out ahead early and hang on for dear life. It was a great win in a season that was satisfying, but could hardly be called magical. And moreover, winning a game against Duke, receiving a retro Nuggets T-shirt from ebay and a package of cookies in the mail from mom was about as good of a Valentine’s Day as I was able to muster up during my Steel Reserve-intensive 3rd year of college. 2. Ahmad Brooks may have a little Lavar in him in terms of his hype/production ratio, but there’s no doubt that he gives us a swagger that was sorely missing in our last two games. Moreover, with him and Vince Redd in at LB, Al Golden was able to rotate enough guys so we weren’t completely tanked in the 4th quarter. 3. Jeff Bowden, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for not running the ball. Sporting Fool points out that FSU gains something along the lines of 270 yards every time they play UVA. And even if he didn’t watch UM or BC gametapes, he had to at least seen SportsCenter. So after an inevitable 58-yard run to tie the game, he puts the ball in the hands of Drew Weatherford, who throws the ball 59 times, with three killer picks (which could’ve easily have been doubled). Although I’m sure this will change next year, this was the first game against FSU I’ve ever seen where a pass that hangs for more than 20-yards isn’t an automatic TD caught by someone who can run a 40 faster than it takes me to spell his first name.4. Marques Hagans played the best game at QB in UVA history, hands down. Okay, maybe it was the QB-ing equivalent to Cappadonna’s verse on Winter Warz: on the verge of chaos, alternating between freestyling and script, sometimes baffling, other times astonishing. And after it’s over, everyone thinks the same thing: no way he ever tops this. He knows it. We know it. The stats themselves were nice, even though 27/36-306 is the type of numbers Cody Hodges can throw up in a half. That being said, you could make the argument that Tony Carter did just as much to win the game for us. T-dot Carter can expect more than a few Christmas cards with a Charlottesville postmark.5. It’s not over for you yet, Groh. FSU was easily the biggest win since Groh was able to field enough talent to realistically compete with Top Ten programs, but in order for it to go down, it had to be a home game on ESPN at 7:45 PM on the most batshit day for college football in the last few years. It was a perfect storm. Now let’s see you do it on the road. And if you think I’m asking too much from these guys, check Vegas: the #23 team in the land is a 1.5-point underdog to a 2-4 team that lost its last game by 55 points. It’s not a secret that UVA’s biggest road win of the last two years was against last year’s Georgia Tech team. Anyways, onto the BlogPoll, courtesy of All Things Longhorn….1. What would it take for you to vote someone other than USC #1 in the poll? If you already are, what would it take for USC to regain the top spot on your ballot?Hmmm…loaded questions much? It’s almost pointless to ask what Texas has to do in order to achieve #1 in the BlogPoll as long as USC keeps winning. The bigger picture sees them clinging on to #2 like a someone at latter-day Veterans Stadium who just ate an undercooked chicken wing. But who can overtake them? Fortunately, wiser heads have prevailed since VT was getting all the plaudits in Plauditville for laying the wood to Ohio and Duke. This is still a team that got called out on the CFB blackhole that is PTI as a team that always loses. They’re getting lucky in that the win in Morgantown is gaining credibility by the week. But waxing the Big East champ only makes you this year’s Utah. They’ll get every opportunity to show and prove in the upcoming months. Tomorrow, they’ve got a date at Byrd with a Maryland team that may or may not have gotten their shit together. After that, you have home games against a bonafide legit BC and vengeance-minded Miami who no one has paid a lick of attention to in months. Add to that a trip to Scott Stadium, and before you start a-chucklin’, if there’s one thing UVA does well, it’s play at home. Get past all of that and more than likely, it’s a de facto away game in Jacksonville against FSU. Good luck, guys…but if they run the table, I don’t see how they’re turned away. As for UGA/Bama, I’ll probably say that UGA has the upper-hand, mostly because their offense might be the only one in the conference that can be called functional, while most of the other thought-to-be contenders have fans running to grandma’s homemade snuff film for comic relief. Of course, as long as Florida’s bus makes it to Jacksonville, it’s never a cakewalk for the Dawgs. However, if Urban has Chris Leak continuing to play the Square Peg at Circle High School, we can dub the trip from JAX to Gainesville The Trail of Tears. After that, it’s a very manageable schedule, with the biggest test coming at home against Auburn, who’s rejuvenated in the sense that they haven’t lost to anyone on national TV in over a month. I’m not sure if the SEC is strong enough for UGA to overcome Texas should they both finish undefeated, but knowing the agita it’ll cause certain readers of Sexy Results!, I’ll just quote Ted Kennedy and say, well drive off that bridge when we get to it.”2. Which of the undefeateds is most likely to remain so? Who is least likely?Part one: Texas. Hands down, considering that the Big XII and Big East are probably buying team charters from the same shortbus dealer this year.Which leads us to the next question, and although Taco Tech seems like the obvious answer, its only because its the right one. You could argue that UGA or Bama has to be the answer since even if they go unbeaten in the regular season, theyll play each other in Atlanta. But thats too far down the road, and Techs gonna lose three days from now. It might not be a blowout, and in all honesty, Techs probably got the best chance to knock off Texas, since they at least have a good gimmick. But right now, we have every right to be skeptical seeing as how their win over a historically dejected Cal team in 2004 is the only big win I can recall for these guys. And their best win to this point wasnt a valiant comeback a la UCLA/Cal or USC/ND nor a gangbusters stomping a la UGA/UT. More like a let’s get on the team bus as quickly as possible nailbiter along the lines of VT/NCSU. Also, Im fairly certain the best way to beat a far more talented team is to slow the game down and keep the offense off the field. Good luck with…all of that.3. If you were running the BCS system, would you let the computer rankings factor in margin of victory? Why or why not?Im not down on including it because I think that standard will have coaches running up the score. Thats horeshit. How are you gonna tell 3rd-string QB Joe Fistfuck to go in there and take a knee when thats about the only time hell ever see the field? If it means that much to the opposing coaches, go ahead and put your guys at risk to stop them. And besides, when a team “runs” up the score, it gives the GameDay people something to talk about the following year with a “revenge game.” Also, MOV can tell you a lot about where a team stands. Were people skeptical when UVA beat WMU and Cuse by a combined 13 points? Yes. Did they have a right to be? Of course. Were they proven correct? Abso-fuckin-lutely. While theres something to be said for gritting out victories, its not something thats recommended eight out of eleven games. For examples, its one thing for UGA to beat South Carolina by two, but what if that happened against MSU, Vandy and UL-M? Are they still #4? In other news, considering that the job market isnt exactly booming for people with an entertainment law focus and poor grades in practice areas such as Civ Pro and Legal Responsibility, Ive often thought about the dream job of working in an upscale liquor store in a college town. Really, do I get more pleasure out helping out indigent clients or seeing the purchase of the DZ in front of me at the Five Points Bottle Shop: 18-pack of Coors Light in the “camo case,” 10-pack of B to the E, bottle of Evan Williams, bottle of Smirnoff Vanilla. Of course, judge lest ye be the only person at the Bi-Lo, wearing a UVA tie tucked into a UVA t-shirt in order to purchase potential “victory wine” during halftime. Okay, thats a lie…there did happen to be someone else in the Bi-Lo, and as luck would have it, shes a law student. Hopefully one who doesnt spend much time in the Law Library talking to her friends.
